“I’m Moldovan and I moved to Slovenia with my parents when I was seven. They did a great job at helping me assimilate, but when you move to another country as a child you’re never totally accepted. You’re always a little different and it can feel like you’re left out. That can make you feel alone or sad, but it also gives you the chance to stop and observe things. The lack of social interaction brought me to discover books. I think it was a combination of observing and reading that brought me to activism.

I think the core of my personality involves trying to understand the world; trying to connect the dots. A little while ago I began questioning where my food comes from. Soon after I decided to go vegan/vegetarian. Then I started questioning where everything else comes from – my bag, my clothes, my furniture. Eventually you discover that the world is a mess and full of inequality. It was like a switch and from that moment on I couldn’t continue living in the same way I was before…

It comes as quite a burden, but you need to do it. I don’t want to make myself out to be a victim here, but it can get quite heavy – to the point of where I’ve ended up crying in my room about all the unfairness out there. There have been many moments in my life when it all got too much for me.

I sometimes wish that I could just stick to my studies and not question everything that’s going on.

I think one of the worst parts of society is that we lost the power to connect truthfully and honestly with each other. We rarely speak to each other honestly. We don’t tell each other about our deepest fears and our ideas about the world. Instead, we talk about what one friend did to another friend and what we watched on TV last night.”

About 500 Coffees ☕️

I'm on a mission to get coffee with 500 strangers from all over the world. I want to speak to humans everywhere about their lives and how they experience the world. And cafes are the perfect place for this. Comfortable, cosy, illuminated with a cacophony of other human voices.
