“I’m struggling to decide whether to stay in Macedonia long-term or not. My sister is living abroad with her partner and so I don’t want to leave my parents alone. It’s not like Western Europe here where you actually have functioning social institutions to help my aging parents.

I lived in Germany for five years and Ireland for six months. I came back to Macedonia a few years ago but I’m not sure whether I’ll stay. I’m not married yet, but this doesn’t feel like the right place to raise a family. There’s a lot of improvement that needs to be done in terms of education. There are fewer things to do and fewer opportunities.

My parents openly tell me to do whatever I want. They’ve never opposed me moving away. But I don’t feel like it’s right to just leave them here alone. It’s my responsibility to make sure they’re alright.”

About 500 Coffees ☕️

I'm on a mission to get coffee with 500 strangers from all over the world. I want to speak to humans everywhere about their lives and how they experience the world. And cafes are the perfect place for this. Comfortable, cosy, illuminated with a cacophony of other human voices.
